Will an awning reduce the heat of the sun?

In Europe, in the summertime, energy received by the earth from the Sun can be greater than 1 200 W/m², which is equivalent to having several radiators per square metre of ground surface. Depending on the colour, an awning fabric can block out from 80 to 95 % of the solar energy.
